Someone over 18 needs to be present
To ensure a smooth installation, please make sure someone aged 18 or over is present during the appointment. We’ll need their consent and signature to confirm where and how the new equipment will be installed.
If you're renting, it's essential to have your landlord’s permission beforehand. The installation may involve drilling—and in some cases, minor digging—so written approval helps avoid delays.
We'll SMS you to remind you what to expect
If we have your mobile number, you’ll receive up to four SMS messages in the lead-up to your installation. These will help you prepare, confirm your appointment, and let you know when we’re on our way. In some cases, we may also give you a quick call to discuss your installation details.
🔒 Important Reminder:
NBN will never ask for remote access to any of your devices. If you need to reschedule your appointment, please contact your provider directly.
Please secure your pets, and keep your mobile handy
To ensure a smooth and safe installation, please secure any dogs or animals on the day. This helps our technicians access your property safely and without disruption.
For health and safety reasons, it’s likely we’ll need to temporarily switch off your power or internet for 30 to 60 minutes during the installation. Please make sure your mobile phone is fully charged and accessible in case of an emergency.

What to expect on installation day
NBN will be installing their equipment which may include fibre cabling, an NBN utility box outside your premises, plus an NBN connection box inside your premises known as a Network Termination Device (NTD).
The following "What We’re Planning To Install And Where It Can Go" video (duration 3:58) explains what you need to know about where NBN can and can't install these devices: Video courtesy of NBN Co.

A person over the age of 18 will need to be present
for typically 2 to 4 hours
NBN need someone over 18 years old to be present for the entire installation process, which usually takes between 2 and 4 hours, but may take longer. They will need your consent and signature to where and how they can install the new equipment. If they are unable to complete everything within a day, NBN will organise to come back as soon as possible to complete the installation. In the meantime, if you have an existing NBN service, you can keep using it.
NBN may need to drill and dig, so landlord permission is required
- If you rent, ensure you have your landlord’s permission for the installation as typically drilling and sometimes digging is involved.
Your new NBN connection box will need to link directly to your Wi-Fi router, so it’s important to consider where it can be installed. If you already have an NBN setup, the new equipment may need to be installed in a different location—this could mean relocating your current modem or router.
If technicians are unable to install the NBN connection box in your preferred spot, there are alternative options available at your own expense. These may include providing a custom fibre cable pathway to reach your desired location
Activating and Optimising your new connection
- After the physical installation is complete, we will activate your new service and notify you. This might take up to a few business days to have filly active. But don't worry, if you have an existing NBN service, you can continue using it in the meantime. Once you're up and running, if you find your internet isn't as fast and reliable as you'd expect, it might be time to check your set-up.

Check your existing setup is ready
The equipment you use, where you place it and how these devices are connected can impact your internet experience with slower speeds or even drop-outs. For example, your Wi-Fi router should be in an open location where you use the internet most and away from interferences. It should also be compatible with at least Wi-Fi 5 or above to access NBN wholesale speeds of at least 100Mbps or above.
Ask us about your existing set-up when you order your full fibre plan. We may recommend you upgrade your existing equipment or purchase new equipment to ensure you're getting the best out of your new full fibre connection.
Note: an NBN full fibre installation includes free installation from NBN and they will supply their own equipment only.

Check your Wi-Fi router is capable of at least Wi-Fi 5 or above in its settings.Find a place for your Wi-Fi router in an open location where you use the internet most, and away from sources of interference like microwaves, fridges, big mirrors and other electrical motors that could possibly cause electromagnetic interferaence.
How your property is built and designed can have an impact on the strength and reliability of your Wi-Fi signal, which can result in areas with low speeds or even drop-outs as you move around your premises.
For larger properties, a Wi-Fi mesh system can help expand your Wi-Fi coverage.
Ensure your connected devices (e.g. your TV, laptop or gaming consoles) are compatible with at least Wi-Fi 5 or above. Otherwise, they could be holding you back from experiencing the speeds that both your NBN speed plan and Wi-Fi router are capable of. Infrastructure Considerations
When you are considering a full fibre connection, just remember that your network will only be as fast as it's slowest piece of infrastructure. This is an important process as you don't want to order an internet plan that is advertised run at 1000mbps, only to find you only experience speeds of 100mbps. Infrastructure comes in many forms as you will see below. If you are unsure or you just want some advice, please CONTACT our network team to help you navigate through this process. We are here to help you.
Internal Cabling
Category 5 cabling in older homes or businesses is very common. Whether they are in your walls or connecting devices together, they were designed to reach speeds of 100mbps,
Category 6 cables will deliver speeds of up to 1000mbps. If you want to future proof your network for many years to come, replace these cables with Category 6A which has the capability of delivery speeds of up to 2500mbps.
Please consider cabling before jumping right in..
Modem / Routers
Modems and routers, especially if they are older models, have speed restrictions as well. It is important to make sure your modem or router has the capability of achieving the speeds you require.
Old Wi-Fi 4 (802.11n): May not support high speeds (>100 Mbps reliably).
Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac): Can support 300–900+ Mbps on 5GHz.
Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax): Best for gigabit speeds and more devices.
Wi-Fi 7 is the newest Wi-Fi standard, and it’s built specifically to handle multi-gigabit fibre speeds.
Ethernet Switches
Ethernet switches play a huge role it routing traffic through a Local Are Network (LAN). The role of the ethernet switch is to move data packets around your network and just like cabling and modem / routers, they have speed limitations.
Ethernet switch (10/100 Mbps) will give you 100mbps.
Gigabit Ethernet (10/100/1000 Mbps) will deliver 1000mbps.
Multi-Gig (2.5G, 5G, 10G) will again future proof your network with speeds of up to 2.5–10 Gbps
Wi-Fi Access Points
The market is awash with new devices that are being released. Smart light bulbs, vacuum cleaners, tablets, gaming consoles and of course laptops and mobile phones. They all connect to your network via Wi-Fi.
WAP's play a huge part in any network and they too, have speed limitations.
Wi-Fi 4 (802.11n) - 50-100mbps is not fibre ready.
Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) - 200–600 Mbps
Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) - 600–900+ Mbps
Wi-Fi 6E / 7 - 1 Gbps+
